Resurrection

So, despite the massive amount of NOTHING that's been going on here at the blog lately, I have been drawing. A little. Avatar art for Gaia has become less than stimulating, so while I have some of that to post, my more recent art has been geared towards some of my own characters--mostly from games I've been playing.

The plan is to give you a bit of a teaser to start, then deposit a massive post or two over the next couple of days.

I've been recently overcome by the desire to try out Dungeon Mastering. I have several new friends who want to give DnD a try, but are beginners and aren't quite sure where to start--on the other hand, another friend and I have never tried DMing, but think it could be lots of fun. So we're going to co-DM a beginner's campaign. As inspiration, the fiance suggested that I try out the game 'Legends of Grimrock'. In the first few minutes of the opening cutscene, my mind was swimming. Unfortunately, less with plans for a dungeon-crawl and more with a developing fantasy of the characters I'd assembled to tackle Grimrock. I started immediately recreating one of the opening scenes.

As you can see, it isn't finished yet, but the plan is to complete it at a later date. Tomorrow morning marks the first brainstorm behind my DM project! Wish me luck!

New Thread

Hullo lovelies.

It's been a while. Again. Not much has happened. Christmas with family, jobs lost and gained, and a renewed attempt at getting daily exercise. And now--more art!

It's been over a year since I started my art thread on Gaia, and I felt that not only had the list become clogged--it's likely those who had originally signed up wouldn't remember that they had. So, I made a new thread! It's more organized than the first attempt, and now I'm only taking five names at a time so I don't get overwhelmed--and so the commissioners don't forget. I'm no closer to opening an art shop or stepping outside my comfort zone, but I'm still getting practice!

This piece I did for bittersweet music was the last piece I did for my old thread. Since I opened my new thread almost a month ago, I've done the following.

magickgirl: her dancing with NPC Ian

XKura_Love3s_YamiX: hers and her friend's avatars

little_rabbit52: hers and her friend's avatars

I was really happy with a lot of these. I feel like I'm actually starting to improve. :)

I blame Patrick Rothfuss

Hey there. It's been a while.

The art's slowed down some over the last couple of months. I'd like to say it's because work and life picked up for me, but really I've just been in a bit of a slump. Except for those three weeks where all my earthly attention was consumed by the literary gem that is 'The Kingkiller Chronicles'. Specifically, the second book 'The Wise Man's Fear', which came out very recently. I was on that library book like a madwoman.

Anyhoo, I've come out the other side, rattled but arguably intact, and I've done a little more art. Most of this is pre-slump, but a little comes after. Hopefully, I'll get more done as I beat my wimpy motivation into shape. In case anybody actually reads this blog, have you got any advice on how to do that? Thanks in advance. Also, you're awesome for reading my stuff. No, seriously. I love you.

To me, it's pretty clear where the slump begins and ends and begins again and then stumbles and breaks a hip and has to go to the hospital and get a body cast and get hooked on pain meds and go into atrophy and hobble around like an octogenarian but then comes out of it with the power of hope and love and Jesus and makes a full recovery that the doctors said wouldn't happen and lives a long and happy life filled with flowers and kittens and sunshine. And gets therapy. Lots and lots of therapy.

Where am I?

It's a New Day

There's an awful lot of newness going on in my life right now!

New state, new city, new house, new furniture, and a new life to get started on! I've even got some new art to share--in a minute.

I've recently moved to San Diego with my significant other, who has come here for a graduate degree. At the moment, I'm looking for work, since money is a good thing to have--and since I'll rather need it if I mean to pursue my true dream of attending art school. The place has taken some getting used to, and setting up our new living quarters has been no small feat! But we're pretty much all the way moved in now, and I've been slowly becoming familiar with my local surroundings. To my great delight, I'm still within walking distance (about an hour) of my beloved Pacific, but it's definitely too cold to go swimming for a big wimp like me. It's still wonderful to be able to walk to the top of the hill and look down on it, though. Feels like home--the rest will all take some getting used to.

So! In between job applications, I've been working on my giant list of Gaians waiting for their free art! I'm growing ever closer to the middle of the list, and am feeling very accomplished--even though the move put a halt to all progress for almost a month. I feel like I am improving, though, and when I get the chance, I've been trying out new art programs on my tablet. We'll see if I like the feel of anything better than Photoshop. :3

Here's the new batch! Enjoy!

Good Friday is Good

So! Been a while, hasn't it, folks? Let me explain.

The primary use of this blog has been to motivate me to do more art and to keep anyone who might be interested abreast of my activities. It later became useful as a way to create links and images on Gaia, for which I've been doing lots of pieces over the past months. However, Blogspot, in its infinite wisdom, decided to change something about their URL links to images (something having to do with a google hosting) which made it impossible for images to show up on Gaia with that link. Thus, I was forced to seek out an alternative. I found one, and have been using it ever since. Unfortunately, it means that I haven't been motivated to put my art up here. But! I was reminded today of my intention to do so, and there's no time like the present.

So! Here's what I've been working on.

I know, I know--not much. But hey--it all looks pretty good, ne? I think all this work is finally paying off! Now I've just gotta work on that whole 'color' thing. :3

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter!

No warning

For this next one, there is no warning that will prepare you. Let me just reiterate that I do not choose the subject matter of these pieces--I stay true to the request and do my best to meet my commissioner's expectations. Sometimes that means dealing with... less conventional subject matter.

For those of you who might take offense at what I draw, I apologize for your offense-taking, but not for my work. If anything, evoking emotion is an artist's triumph.

Surprise!

Have you ever put your iPod on random and been surprised by what comes up? By songs you thought you'd gotten rid of long ago (and need to be)? Something childish and embarassing and possibly annoying? What about discovered new music there you didn't remember putting in?

All three have happened to me recently. So I've been going through my iTunes and getting rid of stuff I know I probably won't wanna listen to anymore. But I'm also real excited (and confused) to have found this odd, jazzy tune that I didn't know I had! It's really ballin, and it's called 'Kalimba' by Mr. Scruff on Ninja Tuna. I love the album title, which is the only reason I mention it. It was probably an iTunes sampler type deal but hell--it's awesome. I'm thinking about getting more stuff by this artist. :D
